Cut Loose 04:14
I’d run down pathways Playing hide and seek You’d throw stones And then hide from me You were a cool boy with a perfect smile I was a fencepost watching mile after mile You are California Deep southern style ways I’m Oregon evergreen On misty days You are California Deep southern style ways I’m Oregon evergreen On misty days CHORUS So cut loose, woohoo la la la la la Cut loose, woohoo Sha na na na na na These roots are strong like bone and moss covered stone So cut loose Because we’re not alone We’d play like enemies And fight like friends You were my family When I was your loose ends You acted out your dreams In the dark I reacted to screams Balling at the park You are California Deep southern style ways I’m Oregon evergreen On misty days You are California Deep southern style ways I’m Oregon evergreen On misty days Wooooo Back then we were beats of boys Running in the rain for fun Now we are men of melodies Walking right into the sun You are California Deep southern style ways I’m Oregon evergreen On misty days You are California Deep southern style ways I’m Oregon evergreen On misty days

It takes three on bended knees to kill a man just trying to breathe It takes three a no-knock entry to kill a woman just trying to sleep Listen to the sound, sound, sound, sound, sound of what's on the ground Look around and see It takes you, them, and me to kill the people just trying to be just trying to breathe just trying to sleep just trying to be

Tule Fog 03:55
lost you in the Tule Fog I lost you in the Tule Fog A boy skipped along Free unbound As the dust valley Song played And the fog rolled on His heart pulses slow It falls and floats But his grey dreams didn’t grow I lost you in the Tule Fog I lost you in the Tule Fog A man looked and left To rain soaked ground As the blood valley Voice cried And the fog Followed on His mind pulses fast It shifts and shakes But the boys pain didn’t slow I lost you in the Tule Fog I can still hear that voice cry in the Tule Fog

the sidewalk is his open road with passing cars his grey hair blows finally focused on what’s ahead and not behind Franklin roller, roll on, roll on, roll on he leaped over grape vines but was tripped up by time time grounded him in a chair but not his pride Franklin roller, roll on, roll on, roll on So In the rain he rolls and in this sun he just goes he’s by himself, but not alone as I drive by Franklin roller, roll on, roll on, roll on

Polaroid 05:09
When I was young And still had time with you Driving slow down these state roads Humming along to a Beatles tune We stopped on the roadside Looked over the canyon’s edge I smiled with my child eyes You saw yourself in the camera lens Well you though it you could drive You’d catch the wind And I thought if I tried Well you’d let me ink Hey Jude on the tape deck Hey dad are we there yet CHORUS You snapped on the spot With every fight You looked back at your boy But sped past warning signs You captured all of the lies Framing the good times And then wondered How it could be I never saw what you could see CHORUS And set myself free You took a thousand pictures I have a thousand whys Why did you have so many colors But only show me your black and white? CHORUS And set myself free Na Na Na Na Na Na

She’s driving down all the way she’s driving down all the way South on 31 With empty arms Where she held her son In those loving arms Now she’s driving down all the way Her head held high But her heart is low She’s saying goodbye To all she’s known Ooo all the way She’s driving down All the way She’s driving down south on 31 She’s driving down She’s driving down all the way Looking in her rearview Trying to leave it behind Looking in her rearview The fog is blinding white All the way We are getting through We gonna get on through She said I believe in you And that little boy too And this love we all share Will get us all through Get us all though She’s driving down All the way She’s driving down All the way All the way

I Want More 05:14
This might be a little outdated But we gotta lay it down I want what you’ve cultivated And get these feet right back on the ground I hope you know you're appreciated I see you and hear your heart We are about to get more separated But baby, you know you know I want more It’s getting more complicated But we gotta keep pushing through It’s not what we anticipated I want this to be right and true We've got something to be investigated there’s a beat bouncing in my core And I’m needing to be satiated And, baby, you know you know I want more Gimme gimme I need more than a taste I need to see your face Gimme gimme Can you see me know? Can you feel it now? Gimme gimme We all want to be satisfied I need more than a taste I want more

about

Sizzos is a word my son coined when he first started talking to ubiquitously stand in for “I don’t know.” This project is all about that leap of faith into something unknown and an attempt to understand and connect better to music, myself, the experiences of being a dad, a son, a partner, and to you all - my friends and family.

I’m not doing it alone though as multiple friends/musicians appear on She’s Driving Down too. I’m so thankful for the inspiration, companionship, and collaboration.

While this album was started before the pandemic and the protests for racial equity in 2020, this album no doubt is influenced by both. These songs are stories about navigating the differences between perception and reality, whether in ourselves, our connections, or in the world around us. These songs are stories about overcoming fear, shame, and insecurity in search of deep love, joy, and relationships that we can depend on
